EMDR Intensives
Often, I meet with clients that have been in therapy for well over a decade. In this life of busyness, we know that this isn’t always ideal. Carving out time to get therapy once a week for years can lead to frustration and take away from the life you are meant to be living. The goal of EMDR intensive therapy is to significantly reduce the time spent in therapy, while offering the highest benefit in return.
EMDR Intensive therapy is exactly what it says: INTENSE. It is six hours of EMDR treatment. However, these longer sessions give us the opportunity to really dive deep without that short 50 minute window we typically have and will offer you a lasting benefit. The goal with this option is to offer you a great amount of healing in just a couple of sessions, leaving you free to move on without weekly therapy, and only needing to see me if symptoms reappear or you have something troubling you need to work through after.
Why make the switch?
Maybe you find yourself at a plateau in your therapeutic journey. You know you have more healing to do but you seem to have gotten all that you can out of traditional practices. You understand the information you have learned over your years of working toward healing yet you still are experiencing many symptoms within your body. Or you’ve been meaning to get into therapy for a while but the time commitment is difficult to reach. Maybe you understand that you are needing a lot of help because you have layers like an onion (you definitely aren’t alone) and you don’t want to spend years in therapy to make progress.
EMDR intensive therapy supports the busyness of our modern lives. Whatever the reason that you find yourself unable to get weekly sessions in your schedule, EMDR intensive therapy can support you during the times when you need therapy the most.EMDR intensive therapy is individualized. Each client’s experience is unique and the treatment will be as well. Working with me for EMDR intensive therapy will get you seen faster, allow you to skip my waitlist, and is designed to support your schedule and timeline.Fun fact: EMDR isn’t just for trauma! It can be used to enhance your performance in a range of areas including business, athletics, and personal relationships.
Where do I start?
If you are a new client, we first need to see if we are a good fit for one another, an aspect of our relationship that is ultimately the most important piece. We will have a short, free consultation. During this time we will also discuss what you are looking to heal. You will receive homework to do before, during, and after our sessions together, which will allow you to work on your goals continuously. As stated before, this work is individualized. Your treatment program will be completely personalized to suit your needs. Once our work together has been completed, we will have an interview to assess how the treatment worked for you. Ongoing treatment is also available if there is a need because of multiple treatment goals or the desire for long term support.
Why EMDR Intensives?
Intensive EMDR therapy practices have shown to significantly improve symptoms in people with severe trauma in their backgrounds that have led to a diagnosis of PTSD. The symptoms decreased more quickly with intensive EMDR treatment than in traditional therapies. Learn more here.
There are other studies stating similar findings. This study shows us how a cognitive behavioral type of therapy in an intensive treatment fashion can lead to full recovery of PTSD. It also shows us how the intensive treatment of a CBT is much more effective than the traditional support therapies.
Another study discovers that psychotherapies for treatment of PTSD have the ability of producing desired results but with a high number of dropouts and non-responsive rates. An intensive EMDR program significantly reduces the number of time spent in therapies with desired results happening much faster. Within the five days of this study, the majority of patients had a significant reduction in symptoms as well as two patients having a symptom reduction so significant, they no longer met the PTSD criteria.
